Maybe you are looking for a new partner/spouse, a new job, a new habit, better health, or more financial wellness. You can’t just start by trying to change your actions and expect any long term outcome to be different than what you are experiencing now.
If you want your life to change, you must first change your mind. This doesn’t mean to be someone you aren’t, like switching political parties or pretending to be an extrovert if you are an introvert. It means literally change the processing and chemistry and physiology and the inputs that you put into your mind.
First, understand that the mind is a collection of all that it gathers through the 5 senses. Everything you see, hear, touch, smell and taste is processed by the brain to create your own personal understanding and version of reality. This process takes place 24 hours a day, 365 days every year – even when you sleep (the sub-conscious and unconscious parts of your brain). This is why you must pay close attention to all environmental inputs that exist in your surroundings, even when you are sleeping. The books you read matter, the smells in your home matter, the background noises (or lack thereof) matter, etc. Do not take any of this for granted – and making changes in these areas will cause a change in your mind.
Second, realize that the body is a chemical, biological and physiological being. The foods and drinks that you consume have real effects on how your mind works. The air you breath has an effect. The medicines, prescriptions, vitamins and supplements have a real effect on how your mind works. Whether or not you exercise regularly has a real effect on how your brain chemistry.
All of these things can be changed – and in fact, unless you pay attention to each of them, and begin to take deliberate steps in these areas, your life will remain the same. Trying to build new habits or improve your emotional state without first changing the mind itself will not work because ultimately the mind is the ultimate guide of what your life is.
